PRAY10 - Day 4

God’s Lives Inside Us!

God Almighty has chosen to come live with you.  What a radical thought.  The all-knowing and all-powerful Creator has determined to set-up residence in your heart.  The only condition to Him moving in is that we give our lives to HIM.  At the very moment we accept Christ, the Holy Spirit comes into our hearts.  This is why we always need to refer to the Holy Spirit as a person – as He or Him instead of “it."

Jesus promised His disciples that when He left them and returned to His Father in Heaven, God would still be present with them by His Spirit.  He said, "I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever – the Spirit of truth." (John 14:16-17).   God kept His promise with them and He continues to do so today.

Why has God given His Spirit to us? One reason is because we need help every day.  We need His help in keeping us from giving into temptation.  We need guidance to do His will. We need His strength and power to help us meet the many challenges of life.  We need Him to help us understand the Word of God and to assist us in prayer.  Below are a number of scriptures that refer to the Holy Spirit.  Take time meditating upon them and form a number of prayer points from them.

Surely you know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you . . . whom you have from God, and you are not your own?  For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.  1 Corinthians 3:16 (GNT); 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NKJV])

If the Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from death, lives in you, then he who raised Christ from death will also give life to your mortal bodies by the presence of his Spirit in you.  Romans 8:11 (GNT)

Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.  And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice.  And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.  Ephesians 4:29-32 (NKJV)

The Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these!  Galatians 5:22-23 (NLT)

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.  2 Corinthians 13:14 (NLT)

Prayer Prompts for the verses above

·          Acknowledge that the Holy Spirit lives inside of you

·          Ask that the same power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead to empower you

·          Seek to have fellowship with God through the Holy Spirit

·          Confess to God if you have grieved the Holy Spirit

·          Yield to God’s workings in your life

My prayer for you:  Father, bring new and fresh understanding about the multi-faceted relationship each of us can have with the Holy Spirit and help us pursue it.  In Jesus’ name, amen!

Thanks for praying with me!
